Emerson Bearing Company (USA; privately-held;
website; 5251R9N7) is creating a division
dedicated to the pump, compressor and oil field market.
Based in Boston, Emerson's new Pump and Oil Division will be staffed by people specifically trained
and experienced to meet the unique and demanding requirements of pump, compressor and oil field customers. In the oil
field market, for example, downtime is especially critical, so they are particularly interested in
Emerson's 24/7 availability for service and inventory.
Emerson was already a leader in supplying bearings to OEM and MRO markets throughout the United States.
But, said Steve Katz, Emerson Bearing's President, "We've experienced significant growth in the Pump and
Oil markets over the last couple of years. Due to the increased demand, we've created an entire division
to specifically cater to their needs."
Specifically, the Pump and Oil Division team can work with customers to help determine the best bearing
for a specific application, based on specific operating characteristics and environments. They can also
help customers work through more difficult challenges, such as determining the cause of a failure, or
provide predictive service life and reliability information.
Emerson has been known for its tendency to focus on developing in-depth knowledge and experience
dedicated to servicing specific bearing markets. For example, Emerson's target markets include
material handling, food processing, and robotics / automation.
The company recently rolled out an all-new website, offering a comprehensive array of resources,
from 3 million bearings in the online product catalog, to spec sheets, interchanges, and
the Failure Analysis section. All available for any customer to use. If that isn't enough, then there
is a "Bearing Detective" to call on to help track down hard-to-find and obsolete bearings.
Emerson has remained a family-run business since its founding in Boston in 1957 by Justin Katz
and Ed Greene. Emerson and its sister company, Action Bearing, operate out of the same facility.
Emerson at one time had been strictly an importer and wholesaler of bearings to other bearing companies,
while Action was the customer sales and distribution arm.
