George Allen, former Governor of Virginia and now Chairman of the American Energy Freedom Center (AEFC; 5251R9N7) recently toured Synchrony Inc., a magnetic bearing manufacturer in Virginia.

Mr. Allen said, "Using this magnetic approach, I think, is revolutionary. It will save at least 10% on electricity," and many millions for big electricity users.

The AEFC is focused on helping the U.S. pursue a policy of developing and using domestic energy resources, rather than depending upon foreign sources.

One of the bearings Mr. Allen viewed was Synchrony's Fusion magnetic bearing, winner of an R&D 100 Award as one of the most technologically significant products introduced in the past year.

Fusion is a compact bearing, uniquely requiring no external electronic controller, has extensive self-monitoring and self-diagnostic systems, and advanced control systems for stability and vibration reduction.

About the R&D 100 award, Synchrony CEO Dr. Victor Iannello said, "Magnetic bearings improve efficiency and reliability while eliminating the need for lubricants that may harm the environment. At a time when there is world attention on energy and the environment, Fusion bearings now make it simple and economical to integrate magnetic bearings into rotating machinery. We are proud to be named an R&D 100 winner.”
