ISO 10317:2008 has been issued by the International Organization
for Standardization (ISO).
Last issued in 1992, ISO 10317 is the international standard for the designation of metric size tapered
roller bearings produced in accordance with ISO 355.
The system covers single-row and double-row TRBs, and TRBs with flanged outers.
It also establishes standards for identifying the bearing's "inner subunits" (inner ring, tapered
rollers and cage), and the outer ring.
It applies to bearings and components produced under ISO 355.
ISO 355:2007 establishes bearing and subunit boundary dimensions and series designations for
single-row and double-row tapered roller bearings. It also specifies the flange dimensions of
flanged outer rings for a subset of those bearings. Finally, it specifies the series designation
for each bearing.
Prior to 2007, ISO 355 was last issued in 1977, although it had been updated in 1980.

ISO is a network of the national standards institutes of 157 countries, one member per country, with
a Central Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, that coordinates the system.
It is a non-governmental organization that covers and includes both public and private sector
standards organizations worldwide. Many member groups are part of a country's government or are
mandated by the government; other member organizations are commercial / private sector, set up by
national partnerships of industry associations.
ISO standards are developed by technical committees comprising experts from the industrial, technical
and business sectors which have asked for the standards, and which subsequently put them to use. These
experts may be joined by representatives of government agencies, testing laboratories, consumer
associations, non-governmental organizations and academia.
