Woodex Bearing Company (USA, privately held;
website)
announced it is expanding and modernizing
seal production at its plant on Georgetown Island, Maine.
Founded in 1905, as its name implies, Woodex bearings are wood bearings; full-split, shimless,
oil-impregnated plane bearings of hard maple. Applications include screw conveyors, roll
conveyors and other equipment.
The expansion project involves Woodex custom-engineered MECO shaft seals. Floorspace for the
seal production will grow from 2,000 square feet to 5,000 square feet, include a vertical
machining center and auxiliary equipment.
MECO seals have been in the Woodex product line since 1984. They are used in bulk materials
processing equipment for chemicals, pharmaceuticals, primary metals, and also in pulp and paper production.
