SNL Ranchi Plant on Strike

Workers at SNL Bearings Ltd. (India, since 2000, a division of NRB Bearings Ltd.; formerly Shriram Needle Bearing Industries Ltd.) main plant in Ranchi are reportedly on strike, over wages and working conditions.

NRB/SNL management has petitioned India's Commissioner of Labor, requesting an "intervention" to declare the strike illegal.

The company also requested enforcement of a rule requiring strikers to remain at least 50 meters from the facility's entrance and not interfere with workers and suppliers.

Shriram Needle Bearing Industries Ltd. was founded in 1983 as a joint venture between INA Bearing (Germany) and Shriram Group (India) to manufacture needle bearings. Today, as a division of NRB, the company is known as SNL Bearings Ltd. and produces a wide variety of needle roller bearings and loose rollers for automotive, 2-wheeler, truck, and industrial applications.

Approximately 200 workers are employed at SNL Ranchi; it was not immediately clear how many were honoring the strike and the immediate impact on production.
