The Timken Company (USA, NYSE: TKR) announced it will invest approximately USD $27 million to expand its plant in Randleman, North Carolina.

The additional capacity will be for industrial sizes of tapered roller bearings, many of which are currently in short supply worldwide.

Opened in 1994, Timken's Randleman roller bearing plant is a key factor in the city of less than 4,000 people. Supporting a payroll of approximately 230 workers, the 150,000 square foot Timken plant is Randolph County's 10th-largest employer.

In early 2004, the United Steelworkers failed in an attempt to organize Randleman's workers

The state of North Carolina took partial credit for Timken's expansion plans, noting the decision was made easier in part by a $100,000 One North Carolina Fund grant, and other incentives totaling $1.4 million.

North Carolina Governor Mike Easley said: "Timken’s decision to expand its Randleman facility will provide 50 quality jobs for 50 hard-working North Carolina families. The availability of an experienced, skilled workforce in Randleman is one of the key reasons this company is expanding here. We will continue to make the necessary investments in workforce development, education and infrastructure that make North Carolina successful in the global economy."

Mike Arnold, President of Timken's Industrial Group, said: "This is among our most technologically advanced facilities, and we look forward to using the additional capacity to increase the value we are able to deliver to our customers."

Mr. Arnold continued: "We are proud to continue our partnership with the state of North Carolina, Randolph county Economic Development Corporation, Randolph County and the City of Randleman as we open the next chapter in the history of Timken's state-of-the-art bearing manufacturing facility in Randleman."

Randleman's expansion will begin in early 2006 and should be complete by mid to late 2007.
