China Reports 2005 Bearing Imports and Exports
copyright © 2005 eBearing Inc.

China's Ministry of Trade reported imports and exports of bearings for the first half of 2005.

Trade statistics released by the Chinese government are often widely criticized by trade representatives in other countries as manipulated -- particularly toward "grossly understating exports" -- to avoid criticism and fueling further trade backlash. Trade statistics for imports are similarly criticized as manipulated to "grossly overstate imports." However, these remain the only widely available and official data covering China's bearing industry trade activity.

Breakdowns by import/export market or type of bearing are not available.

Reported Export Activity

Through the first six months of 2005, China's government reported bearing exports reached 1.24 billion sets, up 18% over the first half of 2004.

By weight, bearing-related parts and component exports reached 25,704 tons. Exports of precision rolling elements reached 20,977 tons.

The total value of all finished bearing and bearing component exports is reported as USD $694.3 million for the first half, up more than 38% over 2004.

China-manufactured bearings were exported to 135 countries. Of those 135, 38 purchased bearings and components worth $5 million or more.

Reported Import Activity

Through the first six months of 2005, China reportedly imported bearings from 64 markets, totaling 7.5 million sets, up 10% over 2004.

By weight, bearing-related part and component imports were 5,275 tons. Imports of precision rolling elements reached 2,078 tons.

The total value of all finished bearing and bearing component imports was $617 million, up more than 16% over the first half of 2004.

Of the 64 markets exporting bearings to China, 17 sent bearings and components worth $5 million or more.
