Bearing Man Ltd. (South Africa, a publicly-traded division of Invicta Holdings Ltd.) celebrated 30 years in business, opening a new 18,000 square meter (194,000 square feet) corporate office in La Lucia Ridge, Millennium Bridge Business Park, just north of Durban.

In addition, the company said, the celebration is sweeter since the business also held above its 2003 financial milestone despite a difficult economy ... sales stayed above 1 billion Rand through the recently-ended fiscal year 2004.

Founded in Durban in 1974, Bearing Man is South Africa's largest distributor of bearings and "disposable" power transmission products and other industrial products. The company imports and distributes ball and roller bearings, belts, seals, power transmission products, electric motors and fasteners.

Because the company's Southern African market does not include much original equipment manufacturing, Bearing Man focuses on supplying replacement aftermarket parts to a broad range of industries. It is the dominant power transmission parts vendor to sugar, paper and steel mills, earthmoving, agricultural and mining markets.

Bearing Man (ticker BRM) has been publicly traded on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange since 1984. It acquired Fenner Power Transmission SA from UK-based FPT Group Ltd. in August 1998 and Invicta Holdings' Bearing Division in 2001. Bearing Man and Invicta Bearing and Transmission are run as separate entities.

With almost 100 branch locations, and offering 24 hours a day, 7 days a week service, Bearing Man is not only South Africa's dominant bearing distributor, but in fact sells one out of every three bearings there. The company has locations across South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia.

Bearing Man's home office in Durban and main distribution center in Johannesburg recently earned ISO 9001:2000 certification. So far, 34 branches have been certified ISO9001:2000. 15 other branches will be certified by the end of 2004. In 2005, the company will move toward environmental ISO 14001 certification.

In September, Bearing Man was one of only four companies to win a 2004 Sustainable Growth Awards for South African business. Over the past five years, it showed sales growth of 104%, along with operating profits up more than 175%. The Sustainable Growth Awards are designed to recognize businesses which are not only South Africa's fastest growing but also contribute the most to the overall economy.
