Godiva Bearings Acquired by Management Team

Godiva Bearings Ltd. (UK) is under new ownership, via a management team buyout.
The group, headed by Managing Director David Harrow, bought the company from its founder / owner
Cuthill family for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in Surrey in 1977, Godiva was set up to buy bearings, then deliver them by motorcycle
as orders came in (NOTE: in the U.S., Applied Industrial Technologies got its start the same way,
with a storefront, telephone and motorcycle).
Godiva started out specializing in rod end bearings, then extended its product lineup to include
spherical plain bearings and needle bearings.
The company, headquartered in Shepperton, now carries a wide variety of ball and roller bearings,
plain bearings and rod ends. With three locations in the UK -- Newcastle, Dudley and Shepperton -- Godiva
is also nurturing a growing export business.
The management team is also being extended after the acquisition. Ray Eccleston joins the Board
with 27 years experience with BSL and INA, as Business Development Manager. Ian Cuthill is retiring,
and Paul Cuthill stays on as Sales Director.
Mr. Harrow told eBearing, "Our intention is to continue to develop our position of being a "trade only"
supplier to customers anywhere in the world, by listening to them and then adding products
to our range where there are opportunities."
Telling eBearing the negotiations and buyout were more involved than expected, Mr. Harrow
was upbeat about the future. "We are all looking forward to growing the business over the
next few years," he said.
