SKF Bearings India Ltd. (a publicly traded, 54%-owned subsidiary of SKF AB, Sweden) has signed an agreement
to acquire Vibration Engineers and Consultants Pvt. Ltd. (India).
While SKF is the dominant bearing manufacturer in India, this acquisition is part of SKF's move toward
offering more value-added services whenever possible, to diversify from bearings and also to leverage its
market position into related and higher-margin businesses.
Started in 1985 in Chennai, Vibration Engineers offers services ranging from condition monitoring,
predictive maintenance, vibration analysis, and in-place dynamic balancing, to general mechanical troubleshooting.
The company currently employs approximately 50 engineers.
Vibration Engineers' Managing Director, M.G. Poduval said, "We see this as an opportunity to offer world class
services to SKF customers both in India and around the globe in the ever-increasing services market."
SKF India's Managing Director, Rakesh Makhija said, "This investment is consistent with our strategy
of moving towards becoming a manufacturing engineering services company. This acquisition will offer SKF
India an established vibration analysis, machine dynamics and balancing business with major synergies with
our own segments and a solid platform for us to expand the SKF Services Business. Maintenance viewed as a
strategic partner in achieving increased reliability and predictability is a huge opportunity that corporations
need to recognize."
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
