INA Schaeffler KG (Germany), the world's second-largest bearing company, has acquired PraTec Prazisiontechnik GmbH (Germany).

Founded in 1990 and located in Ruhr, PraTec produces a wide variety of electric motors, ring-shaped direct drives, and their electronic controls -- servo amplifiers, controllers, power packs and compact control units.

PraTec currently employs approximately 50 people. Sales were not disclosed.

The motors produced by PraTec are specifically designed for mechanical, aerostatic and hydrostatic linear and bearing systems.

Applications include machine tools, automation technology, precision assembly and medical equipment.

INA Executive VP, Robert Schullan, said, "Not only does this expertise in motors allow INA-Schaeffler to round off its portfolio of products supplied by INA's linear division and by LAT Suhl AG, it also serves to extend the spectrum of rolling bearing supports and assemblies for the machine tool industry."

The companies declined to disclose terms of the acquisition.
