SKF and ZF Sachs Form Marketing
Partnership in Brazil

SKF AB (Sweden) and ZF Sachs AG (Germany) have joined forces in Brazil to test a marketing joint venture, with the aim of improving aftermarket sales and market penetration for both companies.

SKF do Brasil is the dominant bearing vendor in that country, while ZF Sachs controls the clutch and release bearing market. Although SKF's market share in Brazil is 25% and ZF Sachs has 30%, Sachs has a dramatically wider aftermarket presence via its distribution network -- as many as 12,000 distributors handle ZF Sachs products in Brazil.

ZF Sachs was formed in July 2002 by the merger of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Sachs Handel GmbH, and Lemforder International AG. The merger made ZF Group the third-largest automotive industry supplier in Germany and the 15th largest worldwide. The combined company manufactures clutches, clutch bearings, struts and shock absorbers under the Sachs, Borg&Beck, Lemforder and Boge brands. It has 55,000 employees and 117 major distribution locations in 22 countries, including Sachs Automotive Brasil. Worldwide, the company has a 24% market share in clutches and clutch release bearings (51% in Germany), and 8% market share in shock absorbers (43% in Germany).

By working together in Brazil to leverage their respective distribution, marketing and sales activities, both SKF and Sachs hope to double their Brazilian aftermarket sales by 2006-2007.
