SKF AB (Sweden) has released its new 900-page "SKF General Catalogue," the much-sought
print reference last produced in 1989.
Two pieces of information will help put the popularity of this reference in perspective:
Translated into sixteen languages, over one million copies
of the 1989 edition are currently in circulation.
While the General Catalogue is a complete listing of every product offered by SKF, the other
information included is usually considered even more valuable across the bearing industry.
Essentially, SKF's catalog has become the bearing industry's most comprehensive and authoritative
reference resource. The new catalog also includes recently updated models and calculations
(bearing life, for example) based on new theories and methodologies.
Product Manager Ebbe Malmstedt said, "A lot has happened in the past thirteen years, and the new
General Catalogue is required to reflect the changes SKF has done to align to modern bearing
market requirements. The next generation will also better reflect the new business structure
of SKF, with its focus on services, reliability, and electronics, for example."
Executive Vice President Christer Gyberg commented, "The SKF General Catalogue is more than just
the ultimate reference source for SKF products. The new SKF General Catalogue represents a major
opportunity for us to share the latest engineering information and product innovations
in one complete package for design engineers to utilize in developing the next generation of products."
The print version is referred to as the, "SKF General Catalogue." The CD-ROM and online
versions are referred to as the, "SKF Interactive Engineering Catalogue."
Initially published in English and German, the General Catalogue will eventually be translated
into sixteen languages.
In addition to using color for the first time, this new edition is also being produced
in smaller print runs, allowing for more frequent updates.
SKF said pricing for the print version is approximately USD $12, available through its
distributors. Eventually, it will also be offered through the SKF web site at skf.com.
