The Timken Company (USA) recently announced it will extend production of
precision automotive-related components into Latin America by the end of 2003.
The automotive bearing plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil will be expanded
to host the new facility.
Precision components are precision rings and similar components produced from
high-quality alloy or carbon steels and other metals. The largest markets
for these products are automotive applications.
Timken is primarily targeting automotive drivetrain applications and the local plants of
North American automakers, along with other Latin American auto manufacturers.
Mark Samolczyk, President, Precision Steel Components, said, "The expansion of
our components business into Latin America, along with our recent European acquisition,
capitalizes on our core competencies to deliver component solutions that meet customer
needs globally."
This expansion is different from the two-year-old joint venture with SKF, also
located in Sao Paulo, to produce forged and turned steel rings for tapered roller and
ball bearings.
