The United States Department of Defense (DoD) has renewed
the waiver of domestic procurement for nine critical
defense-related items, including bearings, from the U.K.
Manufacturers in the United Kingdom are able to bid on:
ball and roller bearings, air circuit breakers, ship anchor
chain, gyrocompasses, electronic navigation systems, steering
systems, pumps, propulsion and machinery control systems,
and lifeboats.
The Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology
and Logistics) waived the domestic purchase requirements
for the period August 19, 2002 through August 18, 2003.
The waiver has been in place and renewed since August 1998.
The DoD has a reciprocal agreement with the U.K. for the
same defense-related items which has been in place since 1994.
