Accuride International Inc. (Santa Fe Springs, California), the largest
company in the world dedicated to precision ball bearing slides, will close its
Charlotte, North Carolina manufacturing plant.
Scott Jordan, Accuride's President and CEO, cited overcapacity amid an influx
of cheap slides from Asia in the decision.
The Charlotte plant is Accuride's smallest, employing approximately 200 workers.
The plant will be closed by the end of May.
Accuride will still maintain its facilities in Indiana, California, Germany,
Japan, the U.K. and Mexico.
The company's slides are used in such equipment as office furniture, drawers, copy
machines, tool chests, medical equipment and computer keyboard drawers.
