Ford Recalls 260,390 Focus Cars for Wheel Bearing Problem
copyright © 2000 eBearing Inc.
Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan) is recalling 260,390 of its 2000 model year Focus vehicles
due to a problem with the rear wheel bearing hub assemblies.
Apparently, the retaining nut which secures the rear hub assembly may not have been properly torqued.
As a result, on drum brake equipped vehicles, the wheel and brake drum assemblies can separate from
the vehicle.
Ford said it has received 15 reports of wheel and drum separations but no immediate reports of accidents.
This is the second recall of rear wheel hub assemblies in two months. In mid-September, CR recalled all
aftermarket Precision Automotive hub assemblies that it had sold for GM cars since August 1999. In that
case, failure of the flange unit could cause the wheel to separate from the vehicle.
