SKF AB (Sweden) reported first half 2000 sales of MSEK 19,900, up 5% over 1999.
Operating profits were MSEK 924 for the same period, or 9.3%.
The company reported that return on invested capital rose to 14.8%, while inventory
turns topped 4 for the first half of 2000.
Bearing sales to the automotive segment were MSEK 4,601, up 4.4% over 1999, and turned
in an operating margin of 4.9%. Sales in the United States increased, while European
sales remained steady.
Bearing sales for heavy trucks held steady in Europe, but dropped "substantially" in
the United States, reflecting continued weakening in the heavy truck market.
Aftermarket sales continued to increase, attributed to a marketing focus.
SKF's new spherical roller bearing, Explorer, contributed to an increase in market
share for that style of bearing; sales of the sealed versions were especially strong.
SKF is a manufacturer of bearings, seals, steel and related services employing
approximately 40,000 people worldwide.
