SKF Reports First Quarter 2000 Operating Results

SKF (Sweden) released its operating results for 1Q2000.
Net Sales were up 5.5% from 1Q1999, from MSEK 9,308 to MSEK 9,822, and Net Profit was
MSEK 770, up from MSEK 273 in 1Q1999. Real estate sales contributed MSEK 100.
Industrial Division Sales: MSEK 2,162 (up 1.1%)
Automotive Division Sales: MSEK 2,310 (up 7.6%)
Electrical Division Sales: MSEK 404 (down 0.5%)
Service Division Sales: MSEK 2,939 (up 7.2%)
Seals Division Sales: MSEK 1,056 (up 14%)
Steel Division Sales: MSEK 487 (up 13.3%)
SKF has set news targets for capital usage, profitability, ROI and EPS. The new
targets are to be reached within two years.
Operating Profit is to be MSEK 4,000 with an Operating Margin of 10%. EPS is to
hit SEK 20 and return on capital 18%.
To reach those targets, SKF has indicated it will intensify market penetration
efforts through the use of the Internet, expand into service and maintenance, customized
solutions and introduce intelligent bearings with built-in electronics. On the
manufacturing side, the company intends to introduce additional flexible manufacturing
for small batch production.
