General Bearing Reports First Quarter 2000
Results Sharply Improved

      General Bearing Corp. (West Nyack, New York) reported a 7% jump in sales and 11% rise in profits for first quarter 2000 from 1999.

      Sales for 1Q2000 were $14.6 million, with Gross Profits of $4.8 million.

      Included in the 1Q2000 results are the results of Jiangsu General Ball and Roller Company LTD, which General Bearing acquired early in 2000. Jiangsu contributed $203,000 to General Bearing 1Q2000 earnings.

      The company attributed the largest increases to sales growth in tapered roller bearings to the heavy-duty truck trailer market. Industrial ball bearing sales grew, along with ball bearing and driveline components to the automotive industry. Distribution division sales were essentially flat.

      General Bearing operates under The General and Hyatt trade names.
