W
WABL
Wheels, Axles, Bearings and Lubrication Subcommittee of the Association
of American Railroads (AAR).
AAR subcommittee which sets standards and guidelines for both new and
reconditioned/remanufactured
bearings and their components. Suppliers must receive certification of facilities,
processes and products in order to conduct business within the interchange
railroad system.
Weibull Distribution
An engineering statistical analysis tool used in studying bearing life.
A Weibull Distribution is used in reliability testing of bearings
because the probability of a bearing's failure is not constant over time.
Exponential distributions are used for products whose failure rates
are constant over time.
Wingquist, Sven
Credited with inventing and patenting the spherical ball bearing in 1907.
Founded SKF, with funding from Gamlestaden textile mills, also in 1907.
