440C Stainless Steel
A stainless steel often used for high-speed, precision bearings, for both races and
rolling elements.
440C is a martensitic stainless steel which can be heat treated to achieve the highest
harness levels of any stainless steel -- up to 60 on the Rockwell C scale.
Critical properties of hardened 440C are wear resistance and corrosion resistance
far beyond carbon steel alloys. 440C is resistant to corrosion from fresh water, steam,
crude oil, gasoline, perspiration, alcohol, blood and foodstuffs.
